Recent studies show that the average person spends over 2 hours a day on social media, with teens and young adults often logging up to 3–5 hours daily. Research also suggests that about 5–10% of users meet the criteria for social media addiction, meaning their use interferes with daily life, relationships, or mental health.

Excessive social media use has been linked to increased anxiety, depression, loneliness, and sleep problems. The constant comparison, fear of missing out (FOMO), and endless notifications can make it difficult to unplug.

The good news? Awareness is the first step. Setting boundaries—like turning off push notifications, limiting screen time, or taking a digital detox day—can help bring balance back into your life.
